Kingston police have warned residents to be wary of cold callers after a man claimed to be doing a survey for the Metropolitan Police.
The alarm was raised when a New Malden resident became suspicious after a man who door knocked him asked various questions about living alone.
The man was dark-skinned, in his late 30s, with short black hair and was wearing a T-shirt and chino trousers. He was also carrying a laptop with him.
He showed the resident a lamented piece of paper with the Metropolitan Police logo on it and said he was “doing a survey for the Metropolitan Police” on Saturday, July 27, at about 6.45pm.
A spokeswoman from Kingston police said: “If you think anyone suspicious is trying to gain personal information or access to your home call 999 immediately.”
