Crystal Palace co-chairman Stephen Browett has moved to calm fans’ fears that Selhurst Park is to be renamed.
Online betting company 12Bet.com were tipped to be buying the naming rights to Crystal Palace’s stadium.
But Browett told fans on the BBS, an online fans forum, that although a deal is close with the betting company to advertise around the stadium, Selhurst Park would not lose its name.
Mr Browett said the aim of the deal is for all the static advertising boards in the ground to be sponsored by 12Bet. They will also have time on the new electronic boards.
Money from the deal, which is hoped to be finalised this week, will go towards financing the new improvements in and around Selhurst Park.
Last week, fans took to social media and online forums to express their concern about the naming rights potentially being sold.
And in a Croydon Guardian poll on the issue, 74 per-cent of fans said they did not want the stadium renamed.
A picture was also posted online of signage outside the ground which said ‘The 12Bet Stadium’ but Mr Browett said it was only a mock up and it had not been approved.
He said: “Selhurst will still be Selhurst but with a facelift part-financed by this deal.
“It will be called Selhurst Park - there may be a "sponsored by 12bet" tacked on afterwards. That's yet to be decided.
“New signage should be there before the Spurs game. They are experimenting with typefaces, colours etc and unfortunately a mock-up was put up briefly on Thursday that had not been authorised or approved.
“No deal with 12bet is actually signed yet anyway but we look forward to that happening and to their support for CPFC.”
Mr Browett added: “We are spending a lot of money on Selhurst Park and yes it would be great to get some sponsorship to help finance this.
“The 12Bet deal will help finance lots of improvements around the stadium. We have already spent £500k on cabling and £400k on a new TV gantry.
“Keep the faith and rest assured that CPFC2010 continue to strive to do our best for the club whilst preserving our history and heritage.”
The Eagles kick off their Premier League season this Sunday when Tottenham Hotspur visit Selhurst Park.
