Oxshott Squash Club have received £50,000 of funding from Sport England to keep the Olympic legacy alive.

The club, based at Oxshott Village Sports Club, Steels Lane, is one of more than 1,300 sports projects across the country to receive the National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities, part of its Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme.

The funding will go towards the building of a third squash court for the club, which play in the Surrey Squash leagues.

The club has two existing courts which were built in the 1960s and the improvements will see a new court built as well as a refurbishment of the existing reception area.

Rob Butler, chairman of Oxshott Squash Club, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises to attract new players and create a superb legacy for the community.

“This facility is all part of the exciting long term development programme for the club.”

Bob Gasston, manager of Oxshott Village Sports Club, oversaw the application for the funding and said he was “absolutely delighted” the club was successful.

Sport England is extending Inspired Facilities until 2017 and an additional £40m of National Lottery funding will be available.

Clubs are invited to bid for the rest round of funding from October 21.
