A "madman" is tackling a 100km challenge for charity.

Ryan Shaw, from Sutton, is taking part in the Thames Path Challenge on September 14 to raise money for Save the Children.

Mr Shaw will run 100km, starting at Putney Bridge in London, following the route of the River Thames, and finishing in Henley-on-Thames.

He said: "The aim is to complete the challenge in under 15 hours.

"The furthest I have ever run before is half a marathon, so this event is a leap into the unknown for me, although I have followed a strict training schedule to prepare.

I don’t want to jinx myself now, but I’ve been looked after really well by Geoff and Ben (who both think I’m a little bit mad), my faithful physio and sports masseur.

"I’ve been fortunate enough that they’ve both been able to keep me moving and in one piece."
