A Worcester Park man has been found guilty of sexually and indecently assaulting children.

Michael Hopkins, 63, of Church Road in Worcester Park, denied 19 counts of sexual and indecent assault against children as young as six-years-old at Kingston Crown Court during his month-long trial.

But a jury decided he was guilty of seven counts of sexual assault on children and four counts of indecent assault against four children last Wednesday.

During the trial jurors heard he was a heavy drinker and flirt who was hoping to “groom” children.

A video interview of one of the victims described Hopkins regularly "groping" her breasts and touching her "private bits".

She also told the interviewer she had called Childline to report the abuse but the person had thought she was “taking the mick”.

The offences were carried out on children who all attend Kingston schools and were between six and 12 years in age between 2001 and 2010.

Hopkins will be sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on October 4.
