A badminton club chairman is calling on people to pick up their racquets and help break a world record for the longest rally.

Oliver Creasey from the Ebbisham Sports Club in Epsom, said the attempt was the perfect opportunity for people to take up badminton.

Oliver Creasey said: "We are club mainly run by volunteers and we are always looking for new members to join."

He said that many of the club have specialised badminton shoes, but all would-be players really need do is to borrow or buy a racket.

He said: "In the beginning it’s better to use plastic shuttles rather than goose feather shuttles because they are much more durable.

"I would say practise. The only way to get better is to do it.

"Whether that is with friends in your own time or formal training with a coach giving you advice, both are going to get you in the right direction."

The Ebbisham Performance Centre needs at least 120 people to take part in order to get into the Guinness Book of Records on Saturday, August 31.

It is part of a 24-hour badminton marathon will starts on Friday 30 to raise money for the performance centre and MERU, a charity which provides equipment for disabled children.

The world record attempt will take place between 4pm and 6pm at Ebbisham Sports Club in Eastway.
