Two baking businesses have been awarded accolades for their cakes.

Flapjack Fabulous Food, based in Battersea, and Canellabakes, based in Wandsworth, were awarded stars in The Great Taste Awards 2013.

Both bakers make their own cakes from scratch at home, with their products available at cafés across Wandsworth.

Catering company Flapjack Fabulous Food were awarded two stars for their carrot cake recipe.

The cake is currently being sold at Bertie and Boo and Adventure Island, both in Balham High Road.

Founder Caroline Goldston said: "As the owner of a small artisan catering company I am delighted to have my delicious cake recognised by such a prestigious award, it is fantastic to have this endorsement of my product.

"I would like to use this accolade as a stepping stone to expand my catering and cake making business to reach a wider audience whilst maintaining a personal and friendly approach."

Claudia Camhi, who runs Canellabakes, was awarded a star for her Shaharzad cake which uses pure almond saffron.

She said: "I used as inspiration the Passover wheat free cakes and started from there, journeying in culinary terms, through the worlds of other cuisines as a metaphor for my family's journeys through many continents of the world."

Judges award one, two or three stars based on the taste of products they are presented without any packaging.
