Notting Hill may be over, but the carnival spirit continues in Kingston this weekend.

Legendary reggae DJ David Rodigan and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly are among the acts playing at this year’s Kingston Carnival, on Sunday, September 1. Now in its 14th year, the party starts at 12pm, when a carnival procession sets off from the Guildhall and through Eden Street, Clarence Street, Market Place and back again.

Kingston mayor Penny Shelton will then officially open the carnival at 1pm, accompanied by the High Commissioner of Jamaica, Aloun Ndombet-Assamba.

There will then be live music and performances across two stages –the Main Stage in Market Place, and the Colin Bloxham Community Stage in High Street.

Presented by Banquet Records, the main stage will host Caribbean Mas bands, samba group Tribo and The Lagan, who are signed to the store’s own label.

David Radigan will be playing three DJ sets while Sam Duckworth, aka Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly will be on stage at 4.45pm.

Prince Fatty and Horseman will be headlining the High Street stage, which will also feature the Bollywood Brass Brand and Kingston community groups including Global Arts and Kingston Chinese Association.

There will be Capoiera artists, buskers and stilt walkers performing throughout town, while the Rose Theatre’s Culture Cafe will host children’s workshops throughout the day.

There’s even more games and activities for youngsters in Memorial Gardens and on the lawn of All Saints Church.
