A rock band hope to taste success by signing a TV deal with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

Brightlight City, who are regular performers at Croydon’s Scream Lounge, came second in talent competition Jamie Oliver’s Summer Jam competition, and could now see themselves working with the chef on a number of other projects.

They beat 800 other bands to reach the final three of the competition but despite getting more than 11,000 votes they were pipped to the post by first placed band Fickle Friends.

Whoever came in first place got to play at The Big Feastival, a music festival organised by Oliver and Blur’s Alex James, which takes place this Saturday.

The band are also in talks with Oliver to have their songs used in his TV advertising campaign.

But the band who is made up of brothers, Jamie and Justin Giarraputo, from Epsom, Joe Edwards and Dan Stubberfield from Carshalton, and Australian Jono Staunton, are certainly not going away from the competition empty handed.

They have been given two slots to play at the festival anyway this weekend. The first performance is on Friday in front of industry experts and the second slot is on the acoustic stage on Saturday.

Mr Oliver is a big fan of the band, who have a new EP coming out on October 21, and lead guitarist Justin Giarraputo said the feedback from the TV chef has been extremely positive.

Mr Giarraputo said: "We had an amazing response with the votes which was fantastic. We came second but we have continued to build on from that.

"Things have worked out nicely for us. Jamie has been really supportive.

"He is really genuine, down to earth and loves his music. One of the best quotes from him was saying we have great energy, great hooks and great looks. Which was great."
