Sleeping residents were woken by police chasing a suspected moped thief through their quiet street in the early hours.

Officers from Kingston were called to assist in the pursuit of a suspected stolen moped from Teddington, shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

Residents in Skerne Road, a no-through road in north Kingston, were awoken by police sirens and a helicopter chasing the suspect through town.

One resident said: “It was actually quite scary, it sounded like something really bad was going on.”

A police spokeswoman said police were pursuing a suspected stolen moped but had no information as to whether anyone had been arrested.
