A new "choir-with-a-difference" is launching in Ashtead next month.

Vocality Singing promises a fun and friendly experience for adults, whether they have sung before or not.

It has a repertoire of uplifting songs from around the world; from jazz, folk and gospel to pop, ethnic and even the odd drinking song.

And to break the ice it is offering a free taster session on its launch night.

Founder Catherine Dyson says advantages of taking part include boosting confidence, meeting like minded individuals and a great sense of achievement from performances.

She says: "So very many people have a passion for singing, but are held back by nervousness, fear or supposed lack of experience.

"Well, all you need is interest at Vocality and we’ll sort the rest! There is no need to be limited from the joys of life just because you can’t read music or only sing in your shower.

"I started Vocality in 2004 because I struggled to find a choir that suited and accepted my lack of experience.

"Our approach is fun and friendly - there are no auditions, we don’t use sheet music and it doesn’t matter if your voice is a little rusty. It’s all about the thrill of singing with others."

Vocality runs choirs across Surrey including Claygate, Ewell, Twickenham, Surbiton, and Cheam.

Free taster session, 8pm to 10pm, Thursday, September 12, St Michael’s Church Hall, The Marld, Ashtead, KT21 1RS.

A course lasting from September to December costs £130.
