A convicted murderer who had been on the run for two years after breaking out of prison has been jailed.

Stephen Comer, of White Bridge Avenue in Mitcham, was jailed in September 1988 following the murder of known drug dealer Jason Foster.

Jason Foster was stabbed to death in a street on May 11, 1997, by Comer and his accomplice Thomas Webb who was also convicted of murder.

Comer, who was just 27 years old at the time and a heroin addict, was due for release in February 2012 but escaped with less than a year of his term to go on June 15, 2011.

He was on the run for two years before he was apprehended and charged with escaping from custody.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty on August 14 and was sentenced to a further eight months in jail at Southwark Crown Court on August 28.
