A new, state-of-the-art medical centre could be built in Sutton.

Property developer Assura Group plans to relocate two local GP surgeries and replace them with a modern centre featuring a pharmacy on the site of the old Henderson Hospital in Homeland Drive.

The developer plans to invest £4million in the scheme, which would involve the relocation of the Grove Road practice and the Belmont GP Centre.

Assura Group has not yet submitted a planning application for the scheme and says it will hold a public consultation before it does so. Two open evenings for people to view the plans, speak to experts and leave feedback are planned at the Belmont GP Centre on September 10 and the Grove Road Practice the following day.

Simon Gould, development manager at Assura Group, said: "High quality and modern GP premises are absolutely essential if local patients are to receive the very best standard of care. Because this development will be so important to the residents of Sutton, allowing time to listen to their opinions is essential to the success of the project."

The consultation sessions will both take place between 5.30pm and 8.00pm. The Belmont GP Centre is in Station Road.
