Specialist police officers have declared a suspect car found outside the territorial army barracks in North Cheam as safe.
Stonecot Hill was closed this morning, after police were called to investigate a suspect car parked outside the Territorial Army barracks.
A red Volvo convertible had been parked outside the barracks for at least 24 hours and police treated the car as suspect, with specialist officers called to the scene.
They entered the car and found there to be no explosive device.
The car has now been removed after experts carried out several controlled explosions, and the cordon has been removed.
The road, which borders Sutton and Merton boroughs, was closed to traffic and pedestrians between the junctions with Gander Green Lane and Sutton Common Road from about 8.30am while police investigated.
It was understood children back at Brookfield Primary School for the first day back after the summer holidays had been turned away while police make sure the area is safe.
But the school has said it has been open with no disruption.
