A Kingston police officer was injured while arresting a man allegedly fleeing after assaulting a woman in New Malden.
Police were flagged down by a bystander along Malden Road at the junction with Field Place yesterday at about 6.20pm.
They were told a 22-year-old woman had been assaulted by a 22-year-old man.
When officers tried to speak to the man he ran.
He was arrested in Wilton Grove on suspicion of domestic common assault, actual bodily harm and possession of cannabis and was taken to a west London police station, where he was bailed to return in early October.
The woman had no visible injuries and did not need any medical treatment. The police officer suffered minor injuries.
