Kingston Council has backed down from a threat to sue a group of landowners who allowed travellers to move into a Worcester Park green space by removing council owned fencing.
Councillor Simon James said the council was investigating legal action after travellers moved into Manor Park with four caravans and a dog kennel in July after going through Hawthorne Woods.
But a Kingston Council spokesman said this week: “The council spoke to the landowner about the need to maintain effective boundaries.
“I understand that he has already made repairs to the fencing in his section, as has the council to its.”
Dog walker Bev Ward, from Idmiston Square, said they had not fulfilled a promise to build a permanent high fence.
She said: “I am very frustrated about this and so are all the other dog walkers. All it takes is the council to say ‘come on boys what are you doing?’”
