Police are searching for a doorstep scammer who conned at 93-year-old lady this week.
The incident took place on Monday September 2 in Woodplace Lane, Coulsdon at about 3pm.
He knocked on the woman’s door and stated that he had just cleaned the victim’s gutters and she owed him £120 for the work.
The lady had been woken up by the knock on the door and paid the money to the man despite not requesting the work to be done.
She spoke to a family member who checked and realised no work had been carried out.
The scammer is described as a white man, in his 40s, approximately 5ft 7ins and spoke with an Irish accent.
Detective Constable Tony Dayes, from Croydon police said: "If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Monday, then please get in touch.
“Sadly, cases like this do happen where elderly or vulnerable residents are targeted by con-artists.
"If you have any vulnerable friends, family or neighbours, please remind them that they should never give money to people who knock at their door.
“The best policy is if in doubt, then do not answer the door to unexpected callers. A genuine caller will also be happy to return when a family member or trusted friend is present."
