A team of five women put on aprons and made nearly 3,000 cupcakes over 24 hours to raise money for charity.

Amy Thompson, 27, Sophie Clapton, 27, Sabrina Wood, 27, Jess Gough, 23, and Jackie Osman, 24, baked from 5pm on Friday through the night, until turning off the ovens at 5pm the next day.

The fundraising five are on track to hit their target of £3,000 for Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People (QEF), based in Leatherhead.

Miss Osman, from Epsom, said during the bakeathon she only sat down in order to ice cakes and did not eat anything, not even a cupcake.

She said: "I didn’t feel tired because there was so much to do. We never had time to sit down and think about being tired."

"When we were finished it was like ‘Oh God I’m tired’ but the day after we felt so good for doing it.

"The way the cakes came out was amazing and we were really glad to experience doing something for someone else."

But she said they are now taking a well deserved break from baking cupcakes, adding: "We're hanging up our aprons for a little while."

The group sold cakes at Epsom fun day on Sunday and companies put in orders for the rest of the cakes.

The women received support from an Ashtead chef David Gillott, owner of catering business Four Gables Fine Dining, who lent them his professional kitchen.

QEF, based in Leatherhead, supports disabled people to increase independence and improve life skills.
