Banstead’s MP has expressed his disappointment at not being endorsed by his local Conservative association for the next general election.

Reigate and Banstead Conservative Association’s executive voted on Tuesday not to automatically reselect MP Blunt as parliamentary candidate.

MP Blunt said: "I am disappointed not to receive the endorsement of the Reigate and Banstead Conservative Association’s executive council as the parliamentary candidate at the 2015 general election.

"However, it will now be for all members of the Conservative party locally to make their decision and I will be seeking their support."

A Conservative Party spokesman said he did not receive renewed endorsement during a ballot on Tuesday.

He said: "It is now for members of the local association to decide whether to reselect him."

The decision comes after Mr Blunt was among the MPs to vote against the Government by rejecting possible military action in Syria.

Mr Blunt was elected as the Conservative MP for Reigate in 1997 replacing Sir George Gardiner who had been deselected by the local Conservative association.
