Headmaster leaves Homefield Preparatory School in Sutton
The headmaster of a private boy’s school has agreed by mutual consent with the governors to leave the school.
Robin Mowbray is leaving Homefield Preparatory School, in Sutton, to devote himself to commercial writing and gaining a PhD.
A letter was sent home to parents today, only a few weeks since the children returned from the summer holiday, stating that the governors have already started searching for a new headmaster but it may take “some months”.
In the meantime the governors have appointed French teacher Sabine White as acting head.
Early in the year Mr Mowbray became ill but returned to work during the summer term.
Mr Mowbray said: “I have completed my tour of duty at Homefield and believe I brought an inspirational educational mission to a resoundingly successful close.
“I will now be devoting myself to my interests of commercial writing and the acquisition of an academic PhD.
“I will continue to share my educational knowledge and expertise as a Classicist and a school governor and will be setting up a new Charitable Foundation, which will deliver societal and educational projects which blend the experience and enterprise of the older generation with the talent and potential of the young.
“I will continue to take a keen interest from afar in the well being and development of Homefield which will always lie very close to my heart.”
The letter, from the chairman of governors, sent home to parents yesterday said: “Homefield has a rich and proud heritage going back over 140 years.
“The school has come through previous such transitions of the Head and I am confident that this time we will also find a very able and strong head who will no doubt lead the school into the next phase of its development.”
