Police urge caution after burglars raid unlocked homes in Wallington and Purley
Three houses have been burgled in the last week after people failed to lock the rear doors to their houses.
Police are appealing to people to make sure they lock all the doors and windows to their homes when they go out or go to bed after two burglaries in The Newlands, Wallington, and one in Woodcote Park, Purley.
The first home in The Newlands was raided between 8.05pm and 10pm on Tuesday and the second was burgled the following day between 2.15pm and 4.35pm. The address in Purley was burgled overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.
In each case, the thieves got in through open or unlocked rear doors and sole handbags and jewellery. At one address £8,000 that had been put in envelopes was taken.
Police recommend people should always keep the doors to their homes locked when they are out or upstairs, to leave keys out of reach of the letter box and to remove back door keys from locks and place them out of sight.
If you have any information about the burglaries, you can call police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
