Sutton will celebrate Black History Month with a host of events.
Following the influence and contributions of post-war black Britons, the month will include the screening of documentary, Hidden Colours, at Carshalton Beeches Baptist Church.
There will also be an evening of Jazz at the Carshalton Jazz Club, and a discussion with Ayomide Adeniola, author of the widely acclaimed Me, My Mother, My Life.
The Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Sean Brennan, will officially open the celebrations at the Europa Gallery in Sutton Library on Monday October 4 with guests being able to enjoy a selection of cultural treats.
This year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington in which Martin Luther King delivered his famous I Have A Dream speech with the month also reflecting on the civil rights movement in the United Kingdom.
The mayor of Sutton, Councillor Sean Brennan, said: "Black History Month is important because it helps young people identify with the past and provides an opportunity for us to reflect on where we are today.
"Sutton has a wide and diverse community and this is an excellent opportunity to inform them of range backgrounds here in the borough."
