An alleged rapist offered a teenage girl drugs before having sex with her while she slept, a jury has heard.

Morgan Towner, of Long Lane, Addiscombe, attacked the 18-year-old after offering her and a friend a lift in his car in the early hours of June 8, 2008, Croydon Crown Court was told last week.

The 37-year-old is said to have pulled up alongside the women, who had been at a party in Waddon and were travelling by night bus to Wimbledon, and offered them ecstasy.

Prosecutor Hanna Llewelyn-Wales told the court Mr Towner offered to take the women to Wimbledon, where they had arranged to meet the 18-year-old's boyfriend.

But the court heard the alleged victim could not find her boyfriend and instead went with her friend to Mr Towner's flat, which was then in Lewis Road, Mitcham, where they continued to drink alcohol.

The 18-year-old, from Sutton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, fell asleep and awoke to find Mr Towner on top of her, the jury heard.

Yesterday, the 18-year-old's boyfriend recalled in court his frantic attempts to contact her on the night of the alleged attack.

He said: "I phoned her about ten times. I could not get through to her at first. When it was answered I could hear her talking but I could not hear what she was saying and it kept cutting out.

"When I finally managed to speak to her she was crying and saying she needed help but she didn't know where she was. She told me was locked in the flat. Every time she answered the phone she was crying."

He added: "I next saw her when I arrived at her house. There were lots of police officers there. She told me she had been raped. She was not crying anymore but I could tell she was really upset. I was so angry about it."

Mr Towner denies rape. The trial continues.
