A probe for an ultrasound machine which will help diagnose deep vein thrombosis has been donated to Epsom Hospital.
The £4,000 equipment was presented to the radiology department last Tuesday, September 24, by Epsom borough and Surrey county councillors Eber Kingston, Jan Mason and John Beckett.
The trio donated £2,235 from their county councillors’ community allowance when they heard that the Epsom Medical Equipment Fund (EMEF) was looking to buy the vascular probe for the new multi-purpose ultrasound machine in the radiology department at Epsom.
Christine Chapman, sonographer at the hospital, said: "Deep vein thrombosis is a serious condition. The diagnosis can be difficult, however.
"With this new transducer radiologists will have the best possible chance to diagnose this condition. Treatment will usually lead to full recovery."
Coun Kington added: "I know how important Epsom Hospital is to our community.
"Giving funds for hospital equipment is not only about improving the facilities for patients, but it is also a clear statement that we believe that the hospital will be caring for our residents for many years to come."
The department’s sonographers thanked the councillors and Bess Harding, of EMEF, for the donation.
