Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons is coming to Kingston for a screening of his new documentary about waste pollution.
The legendary star of stage and screen will be at Tiffin Boys’ School on Friday, October 18, for a special showing of Trashed, which looks at the environmental impact of non-biodegradable waste disposal.
He will be taking questions from the audience after the film.
Mr Irons, who won the 1990 Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Reversal of Fortune, said in a statement: “There is an urgent need for the most imaginative and productive solutions to this problem to be understood and shared by as many communities as possible throughout the world.
“This is where movies can play such an important role - educating society, bringing difficult subjects to the broadest possible audience.”
The event will be hosted by north Kingston and Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith, who said: “I’m enormously grateful that Jeremy Irons has agreed to present his fascinating documentary in Kingston. “Waste may be a fringe issue in Westminster, but not in the real world.
“As the film shows, we generate enough waste every hour to fill the Albert Hall.
“You could even define modern society by its wastefulness.”
The event is free but tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
