Youngsters inspired by cyclists from the London 2012 Olympic road race and Prudential RideLondon event have the chance to join a new cycling club.

The Elmbridge Eagles Bike Club will let young people get a taste for all disciplines of cycling, including mountain biking, road cycling and BMX, along with opportunity to take part in races with British Cycling.

The club, to be launched at Brooklands Community Park, Weybridge, is open to eight to 16-year-olds who can ride without stabilisers and turn and stop when necessary.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “Many youngsters have been inspired by the Olympic champions racing through the borough last year and thousands of them have also watched the London Prudential race when it came to Elmbridge this year.

“There has never been a better time to take up cycling. The Elmbridge Eagles Bike Club will be dedicated to developing young cycling talent with the help of inspirational professional coaches in the fun and safe environment of Brooklands Community Park.”

Sessions will start on Saturday, October 19, on the tarmac at the park, which will be closed to traffic. Training lasts 10 weeks.

Participants must bring their own bike and helmet.
