Thousands of unemployed people in Croydon are hoped to find work in a new programme spearheaded by the council.
Pathways to Employment will be run by the council and Jobcentre Plus, along with private businesses and charities.
The programme aims to get Croydon residents into 16,000 jobs being created in the area.
A £1bn redevelopment of the Whitgift centre is estimated to create 8,000 jobs while growth in other areas should provide another 8,000 posts.
More than 3,000 apprenticeships are planned to be provided by the council and Jobcentre Plus over the next two years.
Events to help people find work will run in the 10 wards with the highest unemployment rate.
“Croydon is on the verge of major investment and regeneration,” said Councillor Vidhi Mohan, cabinet member for communities and economic development.
“The boost this will provide to the local economy will create thousands of jobs for local people.”
