A gang raided a Co-op store for cigarettes in the early hours of this morning.

Two thieves are believed to have forced entry to the shop, on Stoneleigh Broadway,  at about 4am by damaging a window shutter before breaking into a cigarette counter and leaving with the cigarettes.

A Surrey Police spokesman said that there have been several incidents of this nature across East Surrey over recent months which officers believe "could be linked".

The same store was raided by a masked gang, on August 14, who tied up two staff members before fleeing with cash and cigarettes.

PC Tracy Maclean added: "Officers are working closely with the store on how they can improve their security and prevent future incidents like this."

Anyone with information should call the police on 101 quoting reference EP/13/4189 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
