We pride ourselves on bringing people closer together but it appears that even Cupid likes your local Guardian.

Back on August 10, 2000, Lisa Barnett was reading through the Esher and Cobham Guardian when she spotted an advert in the paper's personal section on page 22.

She obviously thought it sounded interesting. Lisa said: "It was the easiest way to meet someone. The paper comes through the door and I wanted to meet someone local."

However she was in for a shock. Jayne Duddy, who placed the ad, looked exactly as she claimed - she was indeed 32, medium build, blonde hair and blue eyes.

Lisa explained: "I had heard of people turning up and meeting someone who wasn't even the same sex as they said in their ad."

Apparently Jayne also stood up to her promise of having a very good sense of humour. "We went for a drink in the local pub and it went well, very well.

"Ever since then that's been it and eventually we moved in together," Lisa said.

Jayne's personal ad said she was looking for friendship possibly more, and she got it.

On Friday, December 8, the pair from Thames Ditton, who are both 38, were joined in a civil arrangement followed by a lavish reception at Raven's Ait, Kingston.

Lisa got back in touch with us before the ceremony and we managed to trace Jayne's original ad.

"I wanted to use it as a surprise in my wedding speech," Lisa said.

Lisa, a community website manager, said it was Jayne, an event manager, who asked her to get married. Lisa said she wanted to get married on the eighth as it's her favourite number.

Her email address contains a couple of number eights and the partnership was held at Raven's Ait. So after that first great date we're glad that she finally found her soulmate.

The couple now plan to honeymoon in Cornwall. It is not clear whether they will be able to buy a copy of their beloved paper in the south west but they can always catch up with the latest news at yourlocalguardian.co.uk.

Best of luck Lisa and Jayne.
