The former chairman of Kingston Hospital, Ian Reynolds, has died aged 69.

Mr Reynolds stepped down from the role, to which he was appointed in November 2011, earlier this year due to ill health.

Hospital chief executive Kate Grimes said: “Ian was an inspirational chairman for Kingston Hospital and we will all miss him very much.

“In the two years that he led the board he made a huge impact and I know he was proud of the fact that he left the trust in very good shape.

“This is a very sad time for all of us and our thoughts are very much with Ian’s family at this difficult time.”

Richmond Park and North Kingston MP Zac Goldsmith said: "Ian was very widely respected, both in the hospital and outside.

"It is a testament to his courage and commitment that he continued working for the hospital into the worst stages of his illness. He will be missed."

Councillor Dennis Doe, a hospital governor, said: “Having met him and sat in meetings he was chairing right towards the end of his life it was quite remarkable. You would not have known he was ill.”

Councillor Neil Houston, chairman of Kingston Council’s health overview and scrutiny panel, said: “I would like to send this panel’s condolences to his family.”

Mr Reynolds had a 25-year career with computer firm IBM and was a fellow of the Royal Society for Arts.
