Two more children arrested over tower block 'arson' in Collingwood Road, Sutton
Two 12-year-olds and a 14-year-old have now been arrested in connection with a fire that ripped through a communal area in a block of flats.
The arrests follow a blaze in Chaucer House, off Collingwood Road near Sutton town centre just after midnight on Thursday.
The blaze started in a communal area on the top floor of the tower block and created so much heat that it smashed windows and melted light fittings. No-one was injured but police said the fire could have had "devastating" consequences.
Officers arrested a 14-year-old boy on Friday afternoon and a 12-year-old later that evening. Police arrested another 12-year-old on Monday afternoon.
All three youths were arrested on suspicion of arson and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police are working with Sutton Housing Partnership to tighten security at Chaucer House and are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Kelly Morteo said: "We have had a good response from the public to our appeal for information.
"If anyone has any additional information, who has not yet come forward, then we would be pleased to hear from you."
If you have information you can call police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
