Atomic Kitten Natasha Hamilton will make her Wimbledon stage debut next week in the musical RENT.

Lauren May ahead caught up with her.

Lauren May: How are rehearsals for Rent going?

Natasha Hamilton: "I'm really enjoying it so far.

"I've had a few rehearsals on my own and I meet the cast next week to really get stuck in.

"They are all amazing West End stars, so I'm looking forward to working with them."

LM: What attracted you to the role?

NM: "Maureen is a real feisty character and this show will really stretch me as an actress, obviously I am playing a lesbian performing artist and I am having my first gay kiss on stage as well as flashing my backside, so it will certainly be memorable!

"It's just great to be apart of such an iconic, critically acclaimed production!

LM: What do you enjoy most about performing in stage musicals?

NM: "It's such a change from performing with the girls and I love to get my teeth into an acting role.

"It's quite nerve racking as the venues are so much more intimate, but it's such a thrill to see the audience respond to the journey that you go on as a performer.

"What's great about Rent is that it's a show that has such a huge effect on the audience and it gets standing ovations every night!"

LM: What was it like appearing on the Big Reunion?

NM: "The Big Reunion was an amazing experience.

"It was great to get back together with the girls again as adults and to really have fun again and to get the opportunity to perform to sold out arenas.

"It's also great that my boys get to see what I do as they weren't here first time around!"

LM: What was it like getting back with the girls?

NM: "We've had such a fun year and now have a much stronger bond as friends!"

LM: What is your favourite all time memory of performing/touring with Atomic Kitten?

NM: "Getting number one with Whole Again.

"We were up against U2 and didn't think we had a chance but we out sold them by thousands! We were so chuffed!"

LM: What can fan expect from the Atomic Kittens in the future? I understand you are releasing new material?

NM: "Well we are back together with The Big Reunion again in December for the Christmas tour which is going to be amazing but then obviously Kerry is pregnant so we'll be having a little break for a while, but it certainly isn't the last that you'll hear of Atomic Kitten!"

LM: Are there any particular projects you are working on or roles you have always wanted to have a go at?

NM: "Well I am really enjoying the theatre roles and its great that I can fit that in alongside the work with the girls.

"In the new year I am going back into the studio to record some solo material with some amazing producers and then after that who knows."

LM: What’s next for Natasha Hamilton?

NM: "Well my next project is obviously Rent- touring the UK and Ireland for 16 shows.

"It's going to be intense but I am so excited to be joining this amazing cast.

"The show toured earlier this year to sell-out audiences and so is back by popular demand.

"I'm so happy to be joining this production and to be taking on this role."

Natasha will be starring in Rent on Thursday, November 14, at New Wimbledon Theatre.
