Hundreds of people attended the wreath laying ceremony at Croydon Town Hall yesterday.

It followed the civic remembrance service at Fairfield Halls which was attended by servicemen and women along with many other organisations.

Mayor of Croydon Councillor Yvette Hopley led the wreath laying ceremony which was held at the war memorial.

Wreaths were laid by representatives of the armed forces, emergency services such as the fire brigade, war veterans and other organisations.

On Saturday more than 24,000 football fans held a minute’s silence at Selhurst Park before Crystal Palace played Everton.

Troops from the RA barracks in Woolwich were invited to the game and gave the players a guard of honour as they walked onto the pitch.

Servicemen and women past and present attended the service.
