A pensioner has called for action to save residents from becoming stranded by floods each time there is heavy rain.

Mrs Jennifer Grant, 66, of Beaufort Way, in Ewell, said floods hit the cul-de-sac last Monday for the third time in recent weeks.

Mrs Grant said the floodwaters did not recede until Thursday, forcing residents to either wade through or drive to stay dry.

She said: "It’s disgusting that we can live like this. We pay top dollar in rates and we’re trapped in our road. You can’t even walk across it and cars get stuck."

Through contacting Epsom Council, Mrs Grant had been informed that Surrey County Council officers may come down to the scene in a few days.

A Surrey County Council spokesman said: "We have every sympathy with the residents of Beaufort Way, but the flooding problem here is caused by the roots of an adjacent large oak tree which regularly spread into the drainage pipe.

"We've jet-cleaned the gullies twice already this year and will be doing so again when the jetter becomes available in about three weeks time."
