An injured man who turned up in Crystal Palace yesterday with serious injuries had not been shot, police have said.

Emergency services including the Metropolitan Police helicopter were called to Crystal Palace Parade, close to the bus station, at about 3pm yesterday afternoon.

One man who saw the drama unfold from a 157 bus said: "I was on the bus going along Westow Hill quite slowly, I looked out the window to see a black male who was possibly in his late twenties or early thirties just fall down.

"I thought he was drunk at first then I noticed a fair amount of blood coming out the bottom of his trousers. Someone was standing by him calling the police- I assume then the bus went on to the Parade."

The witness added: "About five minutes later an ambulance and medic car came to the bus terminal on the Parade and got out to talk to police officers in a police Range Rover at the terminal.

"I went over to tell them what I saw and said I thought he may have been stabbed but the ambulance man said it was a possibly a shooting, I'm not sure he knew at that point for sure.

"They were being held at the terminal until they were given the ok that it was safe to go tend to the man."

Speaking yesterday a Met Police spokesman said: "It is to do with a male that turned up in the area claiming to be injured in some way.

"It’s not really clear at the moment. He was looked at by the ambulance."

But today a spokesman confirmed the man's wounds were not sustained in a shooting.
