Five men have been arrested after a man sustained head injuries during an attack outside a pub on Friday night.

The victim, who is in his 30s, was taken to hospital with head injuries sustained during the attack outside the Fox and Hounds in Walton Street, Walton-on-the-Hill, just before 1am.

The five men, aged 19 to 25, were arrested on suspicion of assault and were being questioned in custody on Saturday.

The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing and his next of kin have been informed.

Detective Constable Steph Worrell said a private function was taking place at the pub at the time of the attack.

DC Worrell said: "Although we have already spoken to a number of witnesses I believe there are others who hold vital information which they have not yet shared with us.

"I would urge anyone who either witnessed the incident, the events surrounding it or who has their suspicions around someone they know, who may have returned home in the early hours with ripped clothing or injuries which they can’t account for to also contact officers with information.

"Incidents of this nature are rare in Tadworth and I would like to reassure the local community that we will do all we can to find those responsible and bring them to justice."

Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team's officers are assisting detectives with the investigation and will be making enquiries in the area.

Anyone with information should call police 101, quoting reference RB/13/3999, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
