It is deeply saddening to hear of the cyclist who died after being hit by a bus in Croydon.
These accidents can happen anywhere, at any time, and that’s why we must do the utmost to prevent them from happening in the future.
I recently helped expose shocking figures which reveal that one person is killed or seriously injured by London’s buses every day.
Transport bosses need to urgently become more transparent around their safety figures.
Transport for London have not yet been able to provide borough by borough breakdowns for recent serious incidents involving their own buses.
They should publish - in full on a quarterly basis - the number of fatal and major accidents involving buses and the worst performing bus companies and routes.
My condolences to the families of the recent victims.
Steve O’Connell, Conservative London Assembly Member for Croydon and Sutton
