A petition containing 2,500 signatures against the plans for the Weylands Treatment Works was handed to county councillors last week.

Walton councillors Andrew Kelly and Christine Elmer and resident Mick Flannigan, who are all active members of the Weylands No Way campaign, handed the petition of objection outside County Hall on Wednesday, November 13.

Rachael Lake, Surrey County Councillor for Walton, Tony Samuels, county councillor for Walton South and Oatlands, and Susie Kemp, assistant chief executive of the council, received the petition after months of campaigning from opponents.

Coun Kelly said: “Although we’ve got 2,500 signatures, this is by no means the end of our campaign. Just hours after we handed these in, I was handed further petition sheets and we’ve now got another few months to get more and more.

“We will continue to do all we can to get this application refused once and for all.”

The application for a waste recycling and recovery park on greenbelt land is now scheduled to be decided at a meeting of the planning and regulatory committee on February 26.
