The first episode of a football ‘mockumentary’ series based in Croydon is now online.

Road to FA Cup is the brainchild of Daniel van der Molen and Aaron Whitehead who came up with the idea after graduating from university in 2009.

The series is shot in the style of The Office and The Thick of It and features a 45-strong cast.

It is based on fictional team The Croydon Terriers who have a documentary team following them around in their first season in the FA Cup under new playboy owner Niall Reedwood.

Mr Molen said: “While humorous the series does highlight on problems with the modern game and has a number of poignant moments.

“Our intention was always to broadcast the series on TV which is why the first episode has only just been released online.

“There are still channels interested but unless there is serious intent to air it we will be releasing each episode alongside certain FA Cup rounds online and free to view.

“As co-producer & director it was a big project for me and I would like to thank everyone involved as we were all working to an extremely low budget.”

Mr Molen is also preparing to release Crystal Palace documentary When Eagles Dare.

Helped by friend Joe Mainland, the documentary tells the story of administration and fighting relegation in the Championship to promotion to the Premier League in just three years.

It is hoped it will be released before Christmas.
