Think you could run Kingston Council better than the current lot?

A student will follow the leader of Kingston Council for a day to find out what she gets up to.

Young people will spend a day in the shoes of council bosses and decision makers during national Takeover Day this Friday.

Children aged 12 to 18 including those in care will be able to get down to business in areas such as children’s services, housing and property management.

They will also be able to get working alongside Kingston Voluntary Action for the event sponsored by the Children’s Commissioner for England. Kingston

Council leader Liz Green said: “It’s a great idea and Kingston Council is proud to be a part of it.

"I’m looking forward to letting someone else take over for the day.

"I hope that the young people will benefit from the opportunity to experience the world of work and to make their voices heard."

Nick Whitfield, director of children’s services at Richmond and Kingston, said: "They can give us a fresh perspective on what we do too.

"It will be a positive experience for all of us."
