Residents are invited to shine a light for someone special ahead of the festive season.

The South East Cancer Help Centre (SECHC), in partnership with the Purley Christmas Lights Association, will be re-erecting a Tree of Light in Purley town centre.

The tree will provide an opportunity for any residents who have lost loved ones to celebrate their lives by sponsoring a light.

The lights can be sponsored any time before December 20, ahead of the switch on after Purley Baptist Minister Pam Bryan turns on the main Christmas lights at 5pm on Saturday, November 30.

Local choirs including ones from SECHC and the Baptist Church, will sing carols around the tree, which will remain illuminated through the Christmas and New Year period.

All light dedications will be put on the SECHC website and a Book of Remembrance containing the names and dedications of those commemorated will be available at SECHC in the New Year as a permanent form of memorial.

If you would like to sponsor a light in memory of someone please contact SECHC for a sponsorship form by going to sechc.org.uk or by calling 020 8668 0974.
