An appeal has been launched to support community groups and people across the county who are at risk as the winter draws in.

The Surviving Winter appeal, set up by the Community Foundation for Surrey, asks residents, who can afford to, to donate their winter fuel allowance to support projects that work with older people in the county.

Others who do not receive the government payment can also donate to the campaign.

David Frank, chairman of the Community Foundation for Surrey, said: “Surviving Winter aims to tackle isolation and support those who are vulnerable by funding local groups delivering vital services to people in need.

“Your donation can help improve the health and wellbeing of older people in the county.”

Dame Sarah Goad, Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, and actor Bernard Cribbins, have both pledged their support to the appeal.

Last year, the Community Foundation for Surrey raised more than £21,000, which included funding from the Government’s Warm Homes Healthy People programme, in partnership with Surrey Healthy Homes and Action Surrey.

To donate to the appeal, cheques should be sent to Surviving Winter Appeal 2013, Community Foundation for Surrey, 1 Bishop’s Wharf, Walnut Tree Close, Guildford, Surrey GU1 4RA.
