A tribute night celebrating the life of a singer-song writer is taking place tonight.
Carl Barat from the Libertines is performing a DJ set and there is a live show from Jon McClure of Reverend and the Makers.
The show is dedicated to Kirsty MacColl, a singer-songwriter from Croydon who died in 2000.
The event takes place in Croydon’s converted 18th Century prison, Matthews Yard.
It is the first in a new series of unique live music ‘Cellar Sessions’ run by a group of young people whose mission is to bring the best in alternative music to town – from rock and indie to punk and post-punk.
As well as local acts there will also be one more special guest announced on the night. Each live set will feature a song from Kirsty MacColl’s extensive catalogue.
Lucas Jennings, one of the promoters, said: “We wanted to create an edgy and intimate night that will appeal to people of different ages and from different backgrounds.
“As a team we’ve been working together for the first time, and we hope to help bring a new energy and vibe to the area.”
Cellar Sessions, Matthews Yard, Croydon, A Tribute to Kirsty McColl, Friday 22nd November, 8pm – 12am, £8.
