A man has appeared in court accused of exposing himself to a teenage girl on train at West Croydon.

Mark Ferguson of Edmeston Close, Hackney, gave no indication of plea when he appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court this morning.

The 48-year-old is charged with one count of exposure and is also accused of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) made in August 2008.

Sam Maine, prosecuting, said a 16-year-old girl was targeted by Mr Ferguson after he got on the train at West Croydon at about 8.15am on Tuesday, October 22.

It is claimed he exposed himself to the girl while she was alone in the carriage.

The court heard Mr Ferguson then left the train and went to stand on the platform where he stood staring at the girl until the train left the station.

District Judge Teresa Szagun said: "There are at least two aggravating features to these matters. The first is the breach of a SOPO the second that this was targeted at a 16-year-old victim."

Judge Szagun bailed Mr Ferguson to appear at Croydon Crown Court on December 6.

As part of his bail conditions he must not travel on trains, tubes, trams or the buses and must report to Stoke Newington police station on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
