Pupils at Oasis Academy Shirley Park Primary have become published authors and illustrators after creating a book of short stories for children in Malawi.

The students created their stories and drawings while learning about the situation of children in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world.

In order to progress to secondary school Malawian children are expected to learn English, making the book beneficial to future pupils.

The book called 'A Story for Malawi' was officially published earlier this year, but has now been launched in schools across Malawi as a means of supplementing their English studies.

Teacher Sophie Jackson said: "The children have worked really hard over the last term, collaboratively planning, writing and illustrating their stories. Each year group has enjoyed working together.

"We're really proud to see their hard work take shape and it's fantastic that the work they have done will have a real value for children in Malawi."

If you would like to order a copy of the book contact the school office on 020 8656 0222 or email sophie.jackson@oasisshirleypark.org.
