A masked burglar confronted a frightened 83-year-old woman on her return home on Friday night.

The 6ft man threatened the woman and stole items, including two rings, from her home in Stones Road, Epsom.

The slim man wearing dark clothes fled the scene and it is not known which way he went.

"We take offences such as burglary very seriously and I would like to assure the residents of Epsom that we are doing everything possible to track down and arrest this man.

“Incidents of this nature are thankfully not a common occurrence but I am appealing to the local community to help identify this person as soon as possible.

"We are urgently appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a suspicious man or vehicle in the area, or anyone who may have any information about the incident, to contact Surrey Police as their information may be vital to the investigation."
