I, like Wilf Jones, attended the Remembrance Day service at Carshalton, and I think it's a little unfair to call it a 'shambles'.

True, the PA system was not at its best, but the attendance was excellent, the cadets, as ever, deserved their applause, and everyone got to lay their wreaths as planned.

I do agree, however, that there could be some improvements, and using the space within the square for the congregation would be a start.

Also, if it has to be a generally religious service, which I have no problem with, then maybe the hymns could be recorded and broadcast through a working PA system.

The vicar struggles manfully every year to raise the volume, but to be fair, I don't think most people are there to sing.

This would apply to the National Anthem and the sounding of the Last Post. I doubt there are many that can play a bugle nowadays as could when I was in TS Puma many years ago.

Overall, the attendance seems to be increasing every year, which is so good to see. We really need to keep on encouraging people to attend, it is a hugely important day to so many.
