A teenager has been robbed of his wallet and mobile phone in a suspected armed mugging last night.

A balaclava-clad man threatened the 18-year-old with what is believed to be a firearm in an alleyway between Sainsbury's in Kiln Lane and East Street in Epsom.

The mugger stole the victim’s iPhone 5s while he was walking along the alleyway at about 10pm.

Police are now hunting for a white man described as about 6ft, of medium build, and in his early 20s. He wore a black tracksuit and spoke with an English accent.

Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Team are making enquiries and helping detectives with their investigation.

Detective Constable Kerry Akehurst said: "This was an extremely frightening ordeal for the victim and no doubt it will stay with him for some time therefore we will do all we can to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.

"Thankfully the victim was not harmed during the robbery and I would like to reassure the local community that although this is an alarming incident, occurrences of this nature are rare in the Epsom and Ewell borough.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference 45130001656, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
