Two hospitals in Sutton are to carry out investigations in relation to links with serial sex attacker Jimmy Savile.

The Royal Marsden in Sutton and Chelsea, and Queen Mary’s Hospital previously situated in Carshalton Beeches, are among 19 hospital trusts that Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced would be investigated yesterday.

The Metropolitan Police passed information on the additional trusts to the Department of Health following a “document review.”

Mr Hunt said he expected reports on visits by the late DJ to those hospitals by next June, bringing the total number of hospitals under investigation to 32.

Savile, a former BBC presenter of Top Of The Pops and Jim’ll Fix It is believed to have abused hundreds of victims.

He died in October 2011 aged 84, a year before allegations that he had sexually abused children came to light.

A spokesperson for Epsom and St Helier University Trust said: “Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust can confirm that it has been passed information by the Department of Health regarding Jimmy Savile, which names Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children (previously situated at Carshalton Beeches) for investigation.

"We will investigate this evidence thoroughly."

A spokesman for The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust said there was no evidence to support the Savile claim.

He said: “We have been passed information from 28 years ago by the Department of Health about Jimmy Savile.

“We have already carried out an initial investigation and we cannot find any evidence to date to support this information, or that Jimmy Savile has ever visited our hospital.”
