Controversial police stop and search tactics have been discussed in the first of a series of school events.
Police are visiting schools in Sutton to discuss how they operate and interact with young people they meet.
Inspector Ian Hicks led a presentation to 12- and 13-year-old boys at Limes College in Sutton where they discussed the issues surrounding stop and search powers.
Insp Hicks tried to dispel beliefs that stop and search powers - where police are able to stop and search anyone they suspect of being involved in crime - are used to pick on boys by presenting pupils with scenarios where the tactic is used.
He also told the group police have a target of making sure one in five searches uncover some sort of criminal activity.
He added: "In Sutton, this 20 per cent target is being met and is increasing, which means we are using our powers responsibly and effectively to keep individuals and neighbourhoods safe."
